Gjirafa launches new grocery delivery services during COVID-19 lockdown.
The COVID-19 pandemic and responses to it have caused long-term ramifications on health, society, and economic activity across the world. As Kosovo faced surging numbers of new cases, numerous measures were put in place to curtail the effects of the outbreak, including a protracted lockdown. As a consequence, households all over the country were faced with shortages in the supply of basic groceries.
Even though gjirafamall.com was not originally designed or historically used for the sale of groceries, we recognized the unprecedented nature of the situation and decided to take urgent action. We contacted various suppliers and secured considerable stock of staple foods. We also talked to our partners and ensured that the prices were on par with the market rates
Door-to-door delivery of groceries during the lockdown presented a massive logistical challenge. However, the #GjirafaTeam was able to find a solution. We put together pre-set packages of different kitchen and hygienic products. Customers could choose the most suitable of three different varieties of packages, and Gjirafa delivered them straight to their homes.
Supporting Families During the Pandemic
At Gjirafa, we are committed to playing a constructive role in building resilient communities. Beyond disaster response, organizations are critical to maintaining vital safety nets that help people cope with disruptions. It is our collective responsibility to make readiness a priority.
After the COVID-19 outbreak, Gjirafa joined the #NjeriPerTjetrin initiative and decided to “adopt” 5 families. We supported them with groceries and other essential supplies throughout the lockdown and after, until they were able to afford to become self-sustainable.
